WSAM Autumn Wales Tour 2021
30th Sept – 3rd October
This trip is being offered out to all members and Associates of the club. All routes will be shared in advance by GPX file and while it is a club trip, it is expected all riders will be able to navigate themselves. Riders can travel independently or as part of a group, so everyone can ride at a pace that is enjoyable for them.
We are suggesting accommodation offering a balance of comfort and affordability, at the locations needed en-route. I have based it on a group of about 14, with some sharing rooms, but if you are booking late or the rooms are taken, just book another place nearby, and let me know. A couple of local taxis can sort out anyone not staying at the main accommodation. If you find somewhere else nicer to stay feel free to do so. While we have planned the route, the accommodation is down to individuals to arrange.

Here is the basic itinerary:
Thursday 30th Sept – Meet at Tesco Broadbridge Heath Petrol Station from 11.30am. We will leave at 12pm promptly, taking the most direct route to Betws-y-Coed in North Wales, so it will be mainly motorways.Distance 260 miles. If you would like to leave earlier in the day and travel independently that’s fine, just let me know.
A suggested accommodation for Thursday night in Betws-y-Coed is Swallow Falls Complex. They should have sufficient twin rooms to accommodate 14 of us on 30th September for one night.
People will need to contact the Hotel directly on 01690 710796, although I booked mine through booking.com. There are other choices locally.
Their web-site is https://www.swallowfallshotel.co.uk
Room rates are £75 for B&B with option to use the restaurant for evening meal. Rob Bright and I have booked beds in the shared bunkhouse for £28.00 so caters for most budgets ( no snorers please 🙂 )
There is a one acre car park behind the hotel.
Friday 1st October – 135 mile route through North Wales finishing near Newtown in mid Wales. We will be staying at the Maesmawr Hall Hotel. http://maesmawrhall.co.uk/
Please contact them directly to book a room, as we have block reserved the hotel for this week. The rates are for a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which should cater for most budgets. It would be a good idea to chat with friends who are going to share a room together. When booking please say you are booking as part of the group WSAM Wales Tour. Cancellation is up to 10am the day before we arrive:
4 Rooms Single Occupancy in the Main House @ £120 Dinner, Bed & Breakfast
3 Rooms Double Occupancy Twins in the Main House @ £175 Dinner, Bed & Breakfast
4 Small Rooms Single Occupancy in the Coach House @ £100 Dinner, Bed & Breakfast
These rooms have been set aside for us for now but to be sure of a room book straight away. Again, there are other places nearby,
Saturday 2nd October – 164 miles. We ride down through mid Wales, Elan Valley and across the Brecon Beacons finishing the day at Brecon, staying at the Brecon Castle Hotel.
http://www.breconcastle.co.uk/
You can book directly although booking.com are offering good prices with decent cancellation.
Sunday 2nd October – A final easy ride across the Wye Valley, enjoying a lovely riverside ride in the morning and then heading back home.

Other Tour Details
Once confirmed, the route details will be shared with you by GPX file before the trip. You will need some device to ensure you can navigate yourself if needed so all riders can choose their riding day. The route is there as a guide. It’s fine if riders want a shorter day or add in their own sections. The idea is that the trip is ‘inclusive’ for all riders to be able to go and match the days riding with their ability.
This is not a training trip or a guided tour. While much of the riding will be as a group, you must be responsible for yourself. We may not always operate the drop off system.

All riders are expected to have breakdown cover and puncture repair kits so any problems can be dealt with. Also worth considering if your bike needs a service / tyres changing as the mileage for the trip will be around 800 miles.

Booking accommodation is done by the individual rider. We have looked into some accommodation that should cater for most riders, but checking it is suitable, booking rooms and any charges are solely the responsibility of the individual. Many of the rooms will be shared twins so either get in quick for the individual rooms or book somewhere that will meet your personal needs.

If you’re not sure if you can go yet, not a problem, just book when you can, but be aware we have only catered for up to 14 riders so you may need to source your own accommodation.

What next?
Click as going….then…. you need to book into the accommodation directly and let me know at [email protected] . Please include details of where you are staying if not at the suggested accommodation, your contact telephone number and make / model of bike. This way we know who is where and riding what.

Please don’t swamp me with emails about accommodation questions, just call the hotel direct or use an app like booking.com.

The route will be shared but probably not for another month while the route is finalised and formatted properly.
Any route technical questions about the GPX files need to be emailed to Iain White at [email protected]
Any other questions email me on [email protected]
